Concept

At first glance , one would think a small Lumia . Front only black flashy -shell polycarbonate Nokia logo ... Everything is there except the Windows logo. And because this newcomer runs Android . But make no mistake , Nokia does not offer an Android like HTC or Samsung, but a revised and largely corrected. In fact Android , there remains only the kernel, the image of what could be Amazon and Kindle Fire tablets . The Android yes, but not of the Google Android sauce. No Gmail , no GMaps , and more importantly , no Google Play Store.

Nokia has kept the Android skeleton, dressed in a new interface with tiles " in Windows 8 " and a shared navigation between screens , tiles apps and services on the one hand , and a customizable timeline of all the events called Fastlane . On the services side , Nokia is obviously great emphasis on home services , with mapping and GPS navigation HERE or MixRadio , home streaming solution mixed . Microsoft and Skype services OneDrive themselves are also pre-installed .

Getting Start

The Nokia X is a small smartphone, with his screen he 115mm measuring 4 inches high, 63 wide and 10 mm thick . In the hand it is quite wide and not very high . The curved rear shell made us forget his good centimeter thick , this " cheat " is very effective and you do not feel 129 grams when it is handled .

Its handling is also very nice, the materials are of good quality , good connections , as well as finishes. Nokia X is dense, it does not crack when handled, it seems to be solid and compact. Its construction is reassuring.

The back cover is déclipsable and can be exchanged against optional shells for varying colors ( and against the modest sum of 10eur ) . We can therefore easily choose from six colors: white, blue , gray, red or green and yellow why not combine the color of its smartphone to the meeting.

It has only the right side of the volume control button and power button. On the upper edge , the 3.5mm jack . On the underside , the data port and micro -USB charging. And on the front , below the screen , one capacitive button "return" . The only therefore essential .

What I remember the first few minutes with the Nokia X is this idea that does not cheat too . It is fun and colorful, it does not take itself to bigger than him. And that's not bad.

hardware side

When you turn on the screen there is immediately a little disappointed, it must be said , by resolution thereof . With a screen of 800 × 480 pixels , there is no miracle and clearly distinguish the pixels , mainly fonts . The viewing angles are not too bad, rather good brightness and colors. Sure it is not Peru, but keep in mind the price of 119eur : screen will make the job.

The side of the 3MP camera , the (super) bare minimum . The photo sensor is really light , the photos are very average .

The speaker is powerful enough to play your music so much loud, but sound quality at high volume is bad enough.

There is better news on the processor part . Equipped with a dual heart Snapdragon clocked at 1GHz and 512MB backed RAM , the Nokia X is reactive , the system is sufficiently lightweight and optimized for the interface is very fluid.

Side storage, it will settle 4GB fortunately a micro- SD slot will easily increase capacity.

The small battery seems 1500mha ensure proper autonomy Nokia X does not seem too greedy. However I do not have to use the back to ensure more precisely what is the battery.

Last on the most basic mobile functions, namely its network hangs and quality of conversations : on this side there is nothing to complain about the Nokia X , the speaker volume is quite good and quality is at the rendezvous . Network The grip is also very good.

conclusion

This first experiment for Android Nokia with an entry-level smartphone that should be considered keeping in mind the price of mobile. And that price is low, very low. 119eur for Android manufacturer established as the Finnish smartphone, this is something that could make history.

So yes, a material point of view it is really in the entry level. Admittedly, this is not the usual experience pure Google / Android but the crossing of Nokia / Microsoft services with an interface that is unknown to us.

But compatibility combined with the manufacturing quality of a Nokia Android applications, it could bring happiness to a lot of users for which the mobile could be a relatively simple and fun smartphone.
