Pedometers motivate people to walk more

A new study shows that people who combine walking with weight loss and improve their health experience better results when using a pedometer. The author of the study, Dr. Dena M. Bravata , senior research scientist at Stanford University , says that people who use pedometers increase their physical activity by 2000 steps per day , which is about a mile (1.6 km). Pedometer users also benefit from a reduction in their blood pressure and better control their blood sugar. In addition, a further study published by Dr. Caroline R. Richardson in the Annals of Family Medicine ( Family Medicine collection ) also reported weight loss among users of pedometer. We can therefore conclude that pedometers help people set and achieve their goals , in addition to offering instant gratification they allow to monitor progress on a regular basis .
